  • A minimum of seven years of job-related experience is required.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, Civil Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
  • Strong understanding of pipeline instrumentation and fluid dynamics, including steady-state and transient hydraulic principles, surge pressure analysis, and waterhammer phenomena.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering concepts with demonstrated ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to complex pipeline systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.
  • Understanding of pipeline processes, SCADA systems, and leak detection fundamentals is required.
  • Good reading, presentation; ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, and lead training classes.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, advanced level reading and writing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pipeline modeling, SCADA, or leak detection processes.
  • Experience with transient hydraulic simulation and surge analysis tools (e.g., AFT Impulse, PIPESIM, SPS, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with waterhammer mitigation design, pump station hydraulics, and pipeline pressure rating evaluations is a plus.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic modeling and transient simulation software such as AFT Impulse, AFT Fathom, PIPESIM, SPS, or equivalent tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with pipeline leak detection platforms (e.g., AVEVA PIM, OASys CVB, Atmos) and data historian systems (e.g., OSIsoft PI, Seeq) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with API RP 1130, API RP 1175, and applicable PHMSA pipeline safety regulations is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, control room management, and real-time transient modeling (RTTM) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DRA injection systems, pump station hydraulics, and pipeline capacity optimization is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and configures the leak detection software models for pipeline leak detection
  • Troubleshoots and supports pipeline hydraulic operations
  • Performs surge analysis and transient hydraulic modeling to evaluate pressure wave propagation, waterhammer effects, and pump start/stop scenarios; develops mitigation strategies including surge relief valve sizing and pipeline pressure rating assessments
  • Develops and maintains steady-state and dynamic hydraulic models to support pipeline capacity studies, drag-reducing agent (DRA) optimization, and operational feasibility assessments for contingency scenarios
  • Participates in the development of specifications and recommendations for process control applications
  • Configures software to support new functionality as well as participating installation and operation activities
  • Provides support on matters requiring immediate diagnostic response on critical system outages
  • Partners with Operations Control and Pipeline Integrity to determine assets and prioritization
  • Monitors and tunes the software leak detection models
  • Assists in ensuring the leak detection and rupture detection systems meet all applicable regulations
  • Maintains a dashboard with KPIs on the leak detection system performance
  • Partners with engineers and management to implement API 1175
  • Administers and leverages data historian platforms (e.g., OSIsoft PI, Seeq) to retrieve, trend, and analyze pipeline operational data in support of leak detection and hydraulic performance evaluations
  • Trains Control Room personnel on the leak detection system and pipeline hydraulics
  • Gathers, analyzes, interprets, acts upon, and disseminates pertinent data from the SCADA system, pipeline leak detection system and data historians
  • Maintains other SCADA-related layered apps as needed
  • Accepts after hour calls
  • Interfaces with operation departments to communicate and define their role in compliance efforts
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
