About The Position

This position is available in DLB’s Mission Critical Department and focuses primarily on hyperscale data centers and related mission critical facilities. The Senior Lead Electrical Engineer, Mission Critical will have the opportunity to collaborate with all design staff and oversee full cycle electrical design activities for commercial building design and construction. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with organizational leadership to develop and edit project specifications and lead design development efforts. The Senior Lead Electrical Engineer, Mission Critical will be self-directed on day-to-day work and independently performs most responsibilities. Will lead project teams and projects of complex scope and broader programs. Will coordinate activities of other personnel. Assists in the development of policies and procedures. The Senior Lead Electrical Engineer, Mission Critical will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of mission critical electrical infrastructure including utility services, medium- and low-voltage distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, paralleling switchgear, transfer schemes, and critical power distribution.
  • Expert understanding of resilient power architectures including N, N+1, 2N, distributed redundant, and concurrently maintainable system designs.
  • Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of electrical systems including National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation Codes.
  • Knowledge of technical / design software including short circuit coordination and arc flash studies, equipment sizing, underground feeder calculations and lighting calculations.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record or technical lead for complex mission critical projects.
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.
  • Skilled at producing drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD and / or Revit.
  • Skilled in performing code analysis including selection of equipment, wiring, etc. to meet code requirements.
  • Skilled in performing code analysis and advanced knowledge of electrical codes.
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace.
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information).
  • Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from ABET accredited institution.
  • PE in related discipline.
  • Minimum thirteen years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including extensive experience leading the design and execution of mission critical facilities such as hyperscale data centers, enterprise data centers, AI infrastructure, semiconductor facilities, healthcare, or other high-availability environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for complex mission critical electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Establish design strategies supporting highly resilient electrical systems for hyperscale data centers and other mission critical environments.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for engineering teams across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Independently perform advanced engineering work.
  • Perform advanced electrical design tasks including development of electrical distribution systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipment from conceptual design through construction documents.
  • Provide direction to project engineers to facilitate development electrical construction drawings and specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids.
  • Review and / or prepare book or sheet specifications for electrical systems.
  • Develop and / or review sequence of operations.
  • Develop proposals including project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Timely and effective management of project design team including resource forecasting and coordination.
  • Identify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Perform QAQC peer reviews for projects where he or she is not the lead design engineer.
  • Survey existing building conditions and prepares technical reports of findings.
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents.
  • Prepare project design and construction documents.
  • Lead the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team.
  • Review shop drawings and submittments.
  • Review and respond to RFIs.
  • Review and complete punchlists and project closeout documents.
  • Review and approve change order requests.
  • Responsible for execution of the firm’s client value system and assuring that the project is executed in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Serve as primary client contact for one or more clients. May act as a Client Program Manager with business development and marketing responsibilities.
  • Build long-term relationships with hyperscale, enterprise, and mission critical clients while serving as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Assist with research for technical papers for conferences and journals.
  • Mentor associates and assists with training and development to create a learning and growing environment.
  • Contribute to organizational training and standards development.
  • May assist in the strategic planning for the group.
  • May assist with hiring process.
  • Identify opportunities and lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency through workflow automation, reduced manual effort, and improved accuracy in forecasting, documentation, reporting, and quality processes.
  • Support adoption of emerging technologies - including advanced analytics, data visualization tools, and digital construction management platforms - to strengthen readiness, quality assurance, and project controls.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure technology solutions align with DLB standards for data security, privacy, and operational integrity.
  • Promote a culture that embraces innovation, continuous improvement, and the strategic use of technology to optimize performance and scalability.
