Senior Lead Architect- Architecture Governance

JPMorganChase•Jersey City, NJ

About The Position

As a Senior Lead Architect at JPMorganChase within Infrastructure Platforms - Data & Specialty Services (DSS), you are an integral part of an architecture team developing high-quality architecture solutions for software applications, platforms, and technical products. You will execute and continuously improve DSS architecture governance processes, partnering with Principal Architects, governance teams, engineers, and product teams to improve the quality, consistency, and traceability of architectural decisions. In a diverse hybrid technology environment, you will use sound technical judgment to guide design decisions, encourage reuse of strategic IP platforms and services, and ensure solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and operationally ready. The role combines architecture governance leadership with hands-on technical delivery. You will guide decisions affecting product design, application functionality, technical operations, and engineering processes, balancing delivery speed with resiliency, security, stability, cost, maintainability, and strategic alignment. You will develop architecture models, reusable patterns, reference implementations, and design guidance, and apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities with human validation and appropriate security, resiliency, and auditability controls. You will also provide guidance across product, engineering, operations, security, risk, control, contractor, and vendor teams, and contribute to the architecture community through mentoring, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in architecture concepts and at least 5 years of applied experience.
  • Experience executing architecture governance processes, including RFCs, ADRs, controls traceability, architecture reviews, and auditable decision records.
  • Ability to improve governance processes through practical standards, tooling, and automation.
  • Experience applying enterprise-authorized agentic AI capabilities, including agentic skills and relevant context, to improve architecture governance workflows.
  • Experience with enterprise, software, and infrastructure architecture across cloud, compute, network, platforms, and resiliency engineering.
  • Expertise in architecture modeling for platforms and technical products.
  • Experience making and documenting architecture decisions, including trade-offs involving availability, performance, security, cost, maintainability, and regulatory or control requirements.
  • Ability to solve design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight.
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application or platform development, testing, and operational stability in complex production environments.
  • Hands-on AWS experience and infrastructure as code experience using Terraform.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language and practical experience with CI/CD tooling, automation, and software delivery practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting or modernizing mission-critical platforms supporting infrastructure services, financial transaction processing, payments, enterprise data, electronic trading, or high-volume digital workflows.
  • Experience with platform engineering, self-service capabilities, service catalogs, reusable infrastructure patterns, and API or event-driven integration.
  • Experience with infrastructure inventory, metadata, data quality, lineage, data contracts, data mesh or data-product practices, and analytical or operational data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience designing agentic AI capabilities, including reusable agent skills, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, context engineering, and related tools and controls.
  • Strong judgment and communication skills to influence technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and continuously improve DSS architecture governance processes, including RFCs, ADRs, controls traceability, and auditable decision records, in partnership with Principal Architects and governance teams.
  • Plan and run DSS architecture governance forums, including preparing agendas and materials, managing attendance, recording minutes, coordinating votes, tracking actions, following through on decisions, and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Drive architecture decisions influencing product design, application functionality, technical operations, and engineering processes, balancing delivery speed, resiliency, security, operational stability, cost, maintainability, and strategic alignment.
  • Develop and maintain architecture models, reusable patterns, reference implementations, and design guidance for platforms and technical products.
  • Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate architecture analysis, impact assessment, and engineering practices, using human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate data handling, resiliency, security, and auditability controls.
  • Provide technical architecture guidance to product, engineering, operations, security, risk, control, contractor, and vendor teams, helping them prepare well-reasoned decisions and high-quality architecture artefacts for governance.
  • Remain hands-on in technical delivery, contributing to prototypes, automation, infrastructure definitions, and reusable patterns as needed.
  • Mentor and collaborate with technical colleagues, share knowledge and skills, and promote reuse of architecture patterns, tooling, and solutions.
