About The Position

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC’s prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company’s position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2024, the company held over 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin. During 2024, net production averaged 775 MBOED. Position Overview ConocoPhillips is seeking a seasoned Land Negotiator to join our dynamic Permian Basin team. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will shape strategic land decisions and directly influence the development of our assets across New Mexico. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll collaborate with engineering, geology, legal, regulatory, and surface land professionals to unlock value and drive responsible growth. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work full-time in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Energy Management, or related technical field.
  • 3 or more years of land negotiation experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • 1 or more years of in-house land negotiation experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Word).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with land management software (e.g., Quorum, ArcGIS, Enverus).
  • Background in project planning, acquisition economics, and commercial deal structures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to mentor and share knowledge.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex land matters while proactively identifying risks and opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead negotiations for strategic acquisitions, trades, and divestitures of undeveloped and developed leasehold.
  • Draft, review, and manage complex oil and gas agreements to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal, ethical, and corporate standards.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and land brokers to clear title for drilling and division order purposes.
  • Maintain and monitor oil and gas contracts to ensure alignment with corporate policies and industry regulations.
  • Prepare and submit filings to state and federal agencies, including Communitization Agreements, Plans of Development, and location exceptions.
  • Represent ConocoPhillips in external engagements with operators, co-owners, landowners, and government entities.
  • Provide strategic land recommendations to leadership, anticipating challenges and offering proactive solutions.
