About The Position

The Parichy lab at the University of Virginia is seeking a Senior Lab Technician to contribute to studies focused on stem cell biology, pattern formation, and regeneration using the zebrafish model. The role involves participation in projects utilizing molecular cloning, transgenesis, CRISPR mutagenesis and gene editing, high-resolution live imaging, and gene expression analyses. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree by start of employment
  • At least 1 year of relevant lab experience, preferably using vertebrates.
  • May accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-going projects as directed by the PI
  • Conduct genetic and phenotypic analyses of new mutants
  • Manipulate genetic pathways and analyze phenotypic outcomes using pharmacological and other conditional transgenic methods
  • Undertake routine methods in molecular biology for genotyping, transgene construction, etc.
  • Examine gene expression and cell distribution using methods of immunohistochemistry, mRNA in situ hybridization, live imaging of fish with transgenic reporter lines
  • Participate in routine fish husbandry and genetic stock maintenance, performed by all lab members
  • Assist with administrative tasks, shared on rotating bases among all lab members
  • Other tasks and methods contingent on project needs and candidate interests
  • Other duties as assigned
