About The Position
The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences seeks applications for a full-time Lab Assistant to support the research of Dr. Katja Kasimatis. The Kasimatis Lab studies the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict using the Caenorhabditis nematode model system. The Assistant will work directly with Dr. Kasimatis to support research in the lab located in the Physical Life Sciences Building.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with spreadsheets, ordering, budget management.
- A bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in animal husbandry.
- Experience generating genome annotations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare media and reagents.
- Maintain nematodes strains.
- Culture bacteria from natural nematode strains.
- Perform microinjections.
- Analyze transcriptomic data.
- Record accurate information and logs of experimental data.
- Supporting lab members with collection of data.
