Daikin Applied is seeking a Senior Lab Automation Engineer III to perform as a key technical expert in our highly automated testing laboratory. You will have a high degree of autonomy and be relied upon to provide support and informal leadership to contractors, maintenance, technicians, and project teams. As a system owner/expert for automation/control systems, you will be part of the internal engineering team that supports the operations and will be influential in creating a strategic vision for the future. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical training and experience
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working with industrial or manufacturing electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of automation and electrical systems
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Rockwell Automation ControlLogix programming experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting facilities or utilities in a manufacturing and/or testing environment
  • Experience managing or overseeing electrical contractors
  • LabVIEW Programming experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of existing electrical and automation systems (PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, sensors/instruments, valves/motors)
  • Program and troubleshoot primarily Allen-Bradley PLC based control systems
  • Maintain documentation for lab control systems
  • Design and develop PLC based control systems for new lab facilty projects
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Operations teams to support lab operations and minimize downtime
  • Support testing, commissioning, and startup of new lab facility projects
  • Provide coaching/training to technicians, maintenance staff, and test engineers at the test laboratory
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications for new projects and facility upgrades
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors on electrical work and service interruptions related to control system upgrades or maintenance
  • Support capital projects, renovations, and expansions by providing automation engineering input and field oversight
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and reliability improvements
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for controls and/or electrical failures
  • Ensure existing electrical and automation systems are properly maintained
  • Analyze the current electrical and automation systems and install base to ensure continued maintainability and support; develop a digital roadmap or masterplan where necessary
  • Conduct estimation, and execution of medium to large scale electrical/automation projects
  • Develop and implement project descriptions, plans, timelines, resource requirements, costs, etc.
  • Interface with vendors and contractors
  • Oversee installations and verify compliance with applicable standards
  • Responsibility for electrical and automation portions of projects
  • Share expertise and provide training to build the competencies of electrical and automation skills to peers and lower-level employees
  • Develop electrical and automation strategies for facility expansions and ongoing support
