About The Position

Concept Solutions, LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to lead application enhancements for a program team building, modernizing, and sustaining mission-critical applications for a Department of War customer. The position combines hands-on technical leadership with responsibility for guiding a small engineering team delivering enhancements and new capabilities to production Java and React applications. The engineer will provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, including solution design, code reviews, testing, release readiness, and production deployment. The role works closely with Government product owners to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, and manage the development backlog. It also collaborates with sustainment, security, and platform engineering teams to support application reliability, security, and successful deployments. The role is hybrid, based around the Reston, Virginia headquarters and approved remote locations in the United States. On-site work at Government facilities in Northern Virginia and Maryland may be required. Government-furnished equipment is used to access Government environments. The schedule is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The team works in two-week Agile sprints and holds customer demonstrations each sprint. Travel is 0–10% within the Washington, DC metropolitan area. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance; an active Secret clearance or higher is required. The base salary is $170,000–$180,000, depending on experience. Requirements

At least 7 years of enterprise Java software development experience, including Spring Boot.
Strong SQL development experience, particularly with PostgreSQL.
Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs.
Demonstrated experience leading a small software engineering team through technical design, code reviews, testing, and production releases.
Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
Active Secret security clearance or higher.
U.S. citizenship.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.

Nice To Haves

Experience developing applications using React.
Experience integrating with Pega or other workflow platforms.
Familiarity with Amazon ECS/Fargate and AWS GovCloud.
Experience delivering software solutions in federal government or other regulated environments requiring formal change control.

Responsibilities

Lead a small engineering team designing, developing, testing, and releasing enhancements and new capabilities for production Java and React applications.
Own technical design decisions, establish code review standards, and ensure assigned development work is ready for release.
Collaborate with Government product owners to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, and manage the development backlog.
Deliver reliable software updates to mission-critical production systems using automated testing, feature flags, and rehearsed rollback procedures.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, promoting software engineering best practices and high-quality code.
Collaborate with sustainment, security, and platform engineering teams to support application reliability, security, and successful deployment.
