About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Platform Development team building and evolving the On-Demand Environments platform — an internal self-service deployment orchestration system used by hundreds of application teams. You will own backend services, command-line tooling, and AI-powered Claude Skills that automate the full deployment lifecycle across Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), Kubernetes, and serverless targets.

Requirements

Hands-on Java development with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security; experience building RESTful microservices deployed to containerised environments.
Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API design.
Proficiency with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Database experience across CockroachDB, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation — Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines; automated build, test, and artifact promotion workflows.
Agile SDLC: hands-on delivery in Scrum or Kanban teams, sprint planning, backlog grooming, definition of done, and iterative release practices.
APM and observability: Dynatrace, structured logging (SLF4J / Log4j), Splunk.
Version control workflows: Git, Bitbucket, fork-and-PR model, conventional commits, peer code review.
Security-aware development: OWASP top 10, secure coding standards, vulnerability remediation, and change management workflows.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in Go for CLI tooling — command parsing, OpenAPI-generated clients, cross-platform binary distribution.
Familiarity with deployment orchestration platforms and automated deployment pipeline models.
Experience with blue-green and canary deployment strategies for zero-downtime releases.
Familiarity with metrics and monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Geneos.
Understanding of distributed tracing: Jaeger, Zipkin.
Knowledge of messaging systems: Kafka, IBM MQ.
Hands-on experience with ServiceNow ITSM workflows for access requests and change management.
Contribution to open-source or internal engineering communities, tech talks, or published architecture decision records (ADRs).

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end delivery of ODE command-line tooling, backend services (Java / Spring Boot), and deployment orchestration integrations.
Design for correctness, observability, and resilience across distributed cloud deployments.
Write secure, high-quality production code adhering to application security standards (injection prevention, authentication, authorization).
Implement deployment prerequisite checks, credential vault integrations, and access management workflows.
Produce and maintain high-level design documents, architecture decision records (ADRs), and deployment architecture diagrams.
Ensure design constraints around scalability, availability, and zero-downtime deployments are reflected in code and validated through automated checks.
Build and maintain application performance monitoring (APM) dashboards and structured logging pipelines.
Proactively identify deployment failure patterns from telemetry and translate insights into platform improvements.
Contribute to engineering communities of practice around ODE best practices, Claude Skills development, and deployment automation.
Share lessons learned from real-world delivery back into shared knowledge bases and team documentation.
Champion diversity, inclusion, and psychological safety within the team.
Actively mentor junior engineers and participate in cross-team platform initiatives.
