About The Position

As a Senior Java Backend Engineer at Citi, you will design and build high-performance, scalable data processing applications that support critical business operations. Working within the Spring ecosystem, you will apply AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering techniques to accelerate delivery and strengthen code quality across the development lifecycle. This role is part of a technology team responsible for building resilient backend systems that manage and process data at scale.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on experience building Java backend applications (Java 17+), backed by a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in the Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Cloud.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational or NoSQL database management, with experience optimizing queries and data models.
• Understanding of in-memory data loading techniques and efficient data joining strategies for large-scale pipelines.
• Knowledge of Java build tools such as Maven or Gradle, testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito, and dependency management.
• Experience applying design patterns and architectural principles such as microservices and event-driven architecture, using Test-Driven Development and tools such as SonarQube to maintain code quality.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink.
• Master's degree in a relevant technical field.
