About The Position

Omnissa’s Horizon Cloud Services Next Gen team is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to architect and evolve the next generation of its cloud-native virtual desktop and application delivery platform. Horizon Cloud Services powers Omnissa’s virtual desktop and app delivery experience for customers worldwide. The Next Gen team owns the architecture and roadmap for the platform’s next evolution, re-architecting core services for greater scale, resilience, and cloud-native operability. The role works with a globally distributed engineering organization spanning the US and India. As a Staff Engineer, you will serve as an architect for one or more platform subsystems, define the technical vision for your area, and make design decisions with an understanding of their broader product impact. You will incorporate security, performance, testability, and operability into designs; lead complex cross-team features from requirements through production; and raise the team’s technical bar through mentorship and technical standards. You will also partner with product management and other engineering teams to turn ambiguous problems into a technical roadmap and use AI expertise to improve productivity and develop solutions. The work includes designing and developing cloud service components using open service platforms and technologies from Azure and AWS; developing scalable, resilient, maintainable, and secure architecture and microservices; and applying expertise in Python, Windows programming, Java/J2EE frameworks, object-oriented design, and open-source technologies. The role operates in an agile development environment and includes requirements analysis, research and design documentation, collaboration with stakeholders and integration teams, guidance on complex bugs and customer issues, and participation in organization activities, technical conferences, and recruitment events.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of extensive experience in multithreaded, distributed application development.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in Java/J2EE, Python, JavaScript, and REST API design.
  • Strong background designing and building large-scale distributed systems and microservices, including Spring Boot and Kubernetes.
  • Proven experience architecting subsystems or services with broad, cross-product impact.
  • Knowledge of UML, software architectural styles, Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD), and J2EE design patterns.
  • Experience developing architecture and microservices that are scalable, resilient, maintainable, and secure.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including driving design and code reviews, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work across geographically distributed teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

  • Set technical standards and drive adoption of performance, security, and operability best practices.
  • Mentor engineers through design and code reviews, brown-bag sessions, and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with product management and engineering teams to define the technical roadmap and clarify ambiguous problems.
  • Use AI expertise to drive productivity improvements and develop innovative team solutions.
  • Design and develop cloud service components using open service platforms and Azure and AWS technologies.
  • Develop scalable, resilient, maintainable, and secure architectures and microservices.
