About The Position

CW is seeking a dependable Senior Janitor to perform daily custodial duties while providing hands-on guidance and support to team members, helping maintain a clean, safe, and positive work environment. This role is located at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid RealID
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of custodial or janitorial experience required
  • Experience in commercial, institutional, or contract environments
  • Experience supporting, training, or mentoring others in a work setting
  • Hands-on experience with cleaning techniques and custodial equipment (e.g., buffers, scrubbers, vacuums) required
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices
  • Ability to demonstrate and explain cleaning techniques in a clear and supportive manner
  • Understanding of safe chemical handling, including the ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Safety Certification preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide clear guidance and feedback
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on maintaining quality standards
  • Ability to identify and address routine issues and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization across all assigned areas
  • Lead by example by demonstrating proper cleaning techniques, safe work practices, and professionalism
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and hands-on support to team members, reinforcing tasks and procedures
  • Assist with on-the-job training for new employees, including proper equipment use and safety practices
  • Offer encouragement and constructive feedback to support team members’ growth and confidence
  • Monitor work areas and proactively identify cleaning needs or areas requiring additional attention
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to management in a timely manner
  • Ensure proper use, care, and storage of custodial equipment and supplies
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and supervisors to support a collaborative work environment
