About The Position

At 10x Genomics, IT not only provides a secure, stable, and scalable infrastructure for R&D, manufacturing, and business operations, it serves as a catalyst for innovation and productivity. We are looking for an exceptional Linux system administrator with strong data protection experience to join our IT team. You will be working with a growing infrastructure that serves multi-petabytes of genomic data in a High Performance Computing environment while delivering optimal performance, availability, and durability.

Requirements

5 years managing petabyte-scale enterprise or HPC storage, including scale-out NAS, with a focus on performance, data protection, and integrity.
Strong knowledge of data replication and backup technologies.
Strong knowledge of diverse Linux distributions including Debian, Ubuntu and Amazon Linux.
Experience with AWS (S3, EBS, EC2, VPC, IAM).
Solid knowledge of cross-platform file sharing protocols (NFS, SMB) and access control (Active Directory/LDAP), including NFSv4 with Kerberos and storage network segmentation.
Experience scripting in Bash or Python.
Experience with IaC and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform).

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with data classification, metadata management, and at-rest encryption technologies.
Operational knowledge of virtualization technologies and hypervisors, such as VMware ESXi/vCenter and Proxmox VE.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, operate and document enterprise and HPC compute and storage across hybrid (on-premises and cloud) environments.
Architect and maintain storage and compute clusters in accordance with best practices for configuration management, automated patching, and performance tuning.
Manage off-site/cloud backup, archive, and data replication solutions. Ensure operational readiness of all backup systems.
Enforce data integrity, security compliance and automated monitoring across production storage and backup systems.
Manage data lifecycle of corporate and research datasets. Implement and enforce DLM policies.
Participate in a shared operational on-call rotation to support our production environment.
Lead post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement long-term preventative fixes.
