About The Position

Planet Technologies, the Nation’s leading Microsoft services provider to the public sector, is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing team as Senior IT Project Manager. In this role, you will be supporting impactful projects that make a difference for our country. The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for project management for major information technology projects. This position requires a higher level of experience with all phases of project planning and implementation, and assumes responsibilities over large-scale and multiple projects, actively collaborating with cross functional teams, and providing strategic direction across all project initiatives. Projects should be completed on schedule by the outlined deadline(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 to 10 years' experience as a Technical Project Manager, ideally in a Microsoft Office 365 Environment.
  • Specific experience managing large, complex IT projects as well as simultaneously handling multiple projects.
  • Ability to prepare and present information related to project progress, vision, roadmap, status reports, and other topics to senior levels of leadership.
  • Successful history of managing project scope and identifying and preparing necessary change orders.
  • Ability to assess risk and know when to escalate issues pertaining to project completion on time, on budget, and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Oversee budget and record keeping; personnel management; contract management; project schedule and meeting all applicable regulations, policies, and requirements.
  • Review customer invoices and assist the accounting department as needed with related questions.
  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Previous experience in a technical project environment planning and forecasting, addressing Risk Management as well as tracking and monitoring both the project plan and budgeting.
  • Ability to read and generally understand complex technical requirements.
  • Ability to effectively present and lead customers through technical assessment and solution architecture.
  • Specific knowledge of the Microsoft suite of solutions, and curiosity to stay current on development trends.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Azure DevOps, and OnePlan.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or other project management certification(s) required.
  • US Citizenship (clearable) is required due to Federal Agency Clearance Requirements which may require up to a 10-year background investigation.

  • Preferred Technical Certifications in some or all: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a wide range of technical projects, ensuring successful service delivery and contract execution for various customer verticals (state and local government agencies, higher education, commercial, and defense industrial base).
  • Manage Office 365 implementations (email, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint) and migrations, Modern Endpoint Management, Azure deployments and migrations, Data and AI deployments, Microsoft D365, PowerApps, and custom development work.
  • Oversee Organizational Change Management, Security and Compliance initiatives.
  • Lead diverse IT project teams, including engineers, architects, cloud strategists, and project managers, from initiation to production implementation, tracking project details to ensure expected results are achieved.
  • Create, manage, and control project schedules and all required activities to ensure alignment with multiple schedules and requirements across all workstreams.
  • Develop and implement risk assessment, change management, quality assurance, performance, and control measures to ensure project completion in accordance with established standards, schedules, and budget parameters.
  • Develop project artifacts: project plan, implementation plans with milestones, weekly status reports, agendas, and meeting minutes, paying close attention to detail.
  • Maintain and manage Program Level budgets for various workstreams and across multiple SOWs for a single customer.
  • Effectively communicate project status, issues, risks, and budgetary information to key stakeholders and leadership.
  • Regularly meet with internal and external stakeholders to gather, prioritize, and refine requirements, discuss ongoing work, explore opportunities, and address challenges.
  • Identify and manage ambiguity and plan alternatives.
  • Develop project management what-if scenarios to facilitate decision making.
  • Assess performance and recommend new measures to improve performance.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Apply knowledge in specific areas of expertise to proactively help customers make basic decisions around features and capabilities, and identify/refer additional products or services if needed.
