About The Position

Horizon3 is seeking a senior, hands-on IT Engineer to own and improve the automations that support company operations. The role takes ownership of the existing automation backbone from the start, maintaining its reliability while building workflows that reduce manual work and advancing IT configuration, infrastructure, and identity toward versioned, reviewed, repeatable code. The engineer sets priorities with little supervision and partners with Security Operations and IT Business Applications where responsibilities overlap. The role targets automation-flow reliability of 99% or better each calendar month and reports reliability, failures, and their causes to IT leadership. Horizon3 is a fast-growing, fully remote cybersecurity company. Its NodeZero platform provides production-safe autonomous penetration testing and assessment operations for organizations of varying sizes. The company describes its culture as centered on respect, collaboration, ownership, results, integrity, process improvement, and customer satisfaction. This position may require up to 10% travel.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building and running automations in a workflow or integration platform; Workato is preferred, while Zapier, Tines, or Okta Workflows are also welcome.
  • Experience writing Python to automate business or IT processes, including making REST API calls.
  • Ability to identify root causes and add error handling and alerts so failures are surfaced promptly.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, webhooks, and data mapping between systems.
  • Ability to write runbooks that another engineer can use to operate and repair a flow.
  • Ability to translate business processes into working automation in partnership with Security, People, and IT.
  • Practical experience or a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in IT engineering, systems engineering, or automation engineering.
  • Experience supporting a distributed or remote-first workforce.
  • Prior experience owning an automation platform or critical workflows with little supervision.
  • Experience with Workato or a similar automation platform, Python or Bash, REST APIs and webhooks, and collaboration platforms such as Slack or Google Workspace.

Nice To Haves

  • DevOps experience.
  • Knowledge of Okta administration, its API, and Okta Workflows.
  • Experience managing configuration, infrastructure, or identity as code using Terraform, CI/CD, and linters, with comfort in Bash and Linux.
  • Experience building Rovo or Jira workflows, or using Workato Genie or similar AI-agent features, for operational work.
  • Experience automating onboarding, offboarding, or device lifecycle processes and demonstrating reliability results.
  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS or cybersecurity company.
  • Relevant certifications such as Okta, Workato, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Own onboarding, termination, and device logistics automation end to end, keeping flows healthy, diagnosing root causes of failures, and implementing lasting fixes.
  • Run the IT Workato workspace, including recipes, connections, error handling, and alerts.
  • Develop runbooks, monitoring, and failure-response procedures for critical IT flows.
  • Build workflows in Okta and Rovo/Jira to remove manual steps from IT processes.
  • Establish foundations for IT as code, including a repository, cloud-hosted in-house tooling, Terraform, CI/CD, and linters, using Python and Bash to connect components.
  • Partner with Security Operations on access scoping, termination timing, and cloud approval.
  • Partner with Business Applications on platform-level Workato access and limits.
  • Take over existing automation flows through a partnered hand-off and maintain ownership, supported by runbooks and peer review.
  • Maintain a reliability level of 99% or better for each calendar month.
  • Report flow reliability, failures, and their causes to IT leadership.
  • Demonstrate integrity, process improvement, and customer satisfaction.
