CHOP is looking for a Senior Investment Associate Generalist to join the Investment Office. Responsible for managing the Hospital's approximately $5.1 billion endowment, the Investment Office is comprised of a small team that has a large impact on CHOP's long-term mission. The Senior Investment Associate Generalist would be primarily responsible for supporting the team's investment research efforts but will also have a broader impact by recruiting and mentoring talent, conducting in-depth market research, and assisting in portfolio management decisions. This is a generalist position that requires expertise across all asset classes, including public and private investments. In addition to driving investment performance, the Senior Investment Associate Generalist will play an active role in cultivating a high-performing team by recruiting, training, and mentoring junior-level investment personnel, including interns or co-op students. The position requires outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences. The ideal candidate will also have strong alignment with CHOP's ICARE (Integrity/Compassion/Accountability/Respect/Excellence) values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • At least five (5) years of experience in evaluating investment opportunities in Private Markets at a high-performance investment organization Required
  • At least five (5) years of investment and/or operations experience Required
  • Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including proficiency in performance analytics. (Required proficiency)
  • Industry expertise in and knowledge of the manager landscapes for Private Equity. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to identify potential conflicts of interest or other concerns. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to develop a view for or against a particular manager/fund. (Required proficiency)
  • Intellectual honesty and integrity. (Required proficiency)
  • Team-oriented approach and strong interpersonal skills. History of building and fostering trusting, sustainable relationships with key stakeholders. Able to collaborate and partner with other subject matter experts and business leaders. (Required proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of the endowment's investment portfolio across various asset classes, including equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity/venture capital, and alternative investments.
  • Monitor existing investments via periodic update meetings and calls with managers, reviewing performance reports, quarterly letters and all other manager correspondence.
  • Document manager due diligence and prepare investment memoranda.
  • Process any requested consents as appropriate.
  • Evaluate re-investment opportunities with existing managers.
  • Source and evaluate prospective investments with new top tier managers.
  • Assist in monitoring and continuously re-underwriting exposures and maintaining close relationships and communication with existing managers.
  • Track and maintain the ongoing pipeline of prospective managers.
  • Analyze portfolio performance, risk factors & exposures, and cash flow projections.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to identify investment opportunities and assess market trends and risks.
  • Collaborate with the investment operations team to ensure timely and accurate reporting of investment activities and performance metrics.
  • Work with the team to prepare for Committee and Board meetings as needed.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and development of junior-level investment personnel, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to foster their professional growth.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including investment managers, consultants, and other partners.
  • Provide updates on investment performance, strategy, and market outlook to colleagues and stakeholders as needed.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging trends to inform investment decisions and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP Investment Generalist and Senior Director Investment Generalist.
  • Attend select manager meetings, conferences, and industry events. Extensive travel is expected.
  • Contribute proactively to recommendations for new workflows, analytics, diligence procedures, controls, and reporting outputs that enhance the overall efficacy and efficiency of the team’s investment underwriting, operations, and decision making.
  • Contribute to a culture of intellectual curiosity and analytical rigor.
