The Opportunity:
You will serve as an expert in the hardware and software integration activities for a next-generation sequencing platform. This role involves being a technical contributor and leader on long-term, complex, and novel projects requiring ingenuity, creativity, and technical expertise. You are someone who actively seeks out and thrives on difficult problems. You must be comfortable developing complex tools using Python or another rapid prototype language to aid in the characterization and operation of the sequencing platform. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation are essential.

Requirements

• Degree in Bio-engineering, Bio-medical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or a related discipline with a background in instrumentation development.
• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of applicable industry experience, Master’s degree with 2+ years of applicable industry experience, or Ph.D. with 1+ years of applicable industry experience.
• Programming experience required, 2+ years of Python required.
• Strong mechanical and electrical skills, electro-mechanical integration and troubleshooting skills a must.
• Analytical skills to effectively review and analyze technical problems.
• Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written and electronic record keeping skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with C++ a plus.
• Experience with sequencing system development is a plus.
• Understanding of DNA manipulation techniques and sequencing methodologies a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end integration of hardware and software, focusing on the characterization of component interactions and overall sequencing platform performance.
• Design and implement comprehensive testing frameworks, including metrology tools, modular object-oriented software, and data management systems.
• Execute detailed experiments to measure and optimize system parameters such as accuracy, reliability, and repeatability, including high-speed data path troubleshooting.
• Apply a deep understanding of system physics and assay performance to conduct root cause analysis and solve complex technical challenges.
• Drive cross-functional projects independently, providing creative solutions and technical guidance to engineering teams under general management.
