About The Position

This position supports the design, development, testing, and operation of projects at PERATON Labs, Peraton’s research and development arm. Working closely with engineering, scientific, and technical staff, the engineer develops novel solutions, primarily focused on fast control and real-time data analysis. The role involves analyzing, designing, and implementing instrumentation and control systems, including maturing prototypes into field-deployable systems. It also requires producing and reviewing professional-quality design documentation and may include hands-on electronics and software testing, failure diagnosis, and repairs. The position may provide technical oversight of staff when appropriate and may require onsite work five days a week when required.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Relevant professional experience: at least 8 years with a BS, 6 years with an MS, or 3 years with a PhD.
• Experience working with National Instruments equipment such as cRIO and cDAQ.
• Experience implementing and updating designs with National Instruments LabVIEW.
• Experience with analog and digital I/O data acquisition and control signals, as well as signal-conditioning techniques.
• Familiarity with laboratory or bench hardware such as oscilloscopes, AC and DC power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.
• Experience designing and troubleshooting cabling and interconnectivity.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and analyzing technical documentation.
• Ability to work onsite five days a week when required.
• U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with experimental physics and Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS).
• Experience using version-control and configuration-management tools such as Git.
• Experience with the Linux operating system.
• Experience creating isolated electrical subsystems for field-deployable systems that connect to existing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test experimental instrumentation and control systems.
• Author and review documentation packages, including process control diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and test plans.
• Prepare presentations, simulations, analyses, and other materials for internal and external design and manufacturing reviews.
• Review design-document packages for manufacturability, testability, and design validation.
• Occasionally perform hands-on testing of electronics and software, diagnose failures, and make repairs as needed.
• Provide technical oversight of staff when appropriate.
• Work with engineering, scientific, and technical staff to develop solutions for project design, development, testing, and operational phases.
