About The Position

Our electric power generation clients, both in Canada and US, are updating and replacing the power plant control systems with new digital control systems, expanding work in the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group. This is a senior level design engineering position offering challenging opportunities in nuclear Instrument and Controls Engineering, providing an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will lead a team of nuclear I&C Engineers and interface with discipline engineers, designers, and clients to ensure all requirements are satisfied. The role involves working on major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants, specifically in areas like Digital Systems (PLC, DCS, Touchscreen displays, network switches and control systems), Functional Requirement and Procurement Specifications, software categorization reports, process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports, and nuclear modification packages.

Requirements

  • A BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in design engineering for process control systems
  • Experience in design engineering for nuclear power plant control system is preferred
  • Experience with power plant instrumentation and controls systems design for Candu reactors, including DCS for turbine, control, feedwater control, and data display
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Willing or able to lead others who use modern tools (automation and AI)

Nice To Haves

  • P.Eng license
  • Active Ontario Power Generation (OPG) security clearance
  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of nuclear I&C Engineers
  • Interface with the discipline engineers and designers on the Project Team and with the client to ensure all client requirements are satisfied
  • Work on major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants
  • Prepare Functional Requirement and Procurement Specifications and software categorization reports for instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants
  • Prepare Process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages
  • Prepare instrument data sheets (IDS) and instrument calibration sheets (IDS)
  • Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production including cable block diagrams, connection wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Interface with vendors and prepare equipment purchase specifications
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements
  • Attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure the client is satisfied with our work product
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers
  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation
  • Guide when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
