About The Position

The primary responsibility of this pharmacist position is to support the operations of the CU Research Pharmacy (CURP) at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the Anschutz Medical Campus. CURP is an academic research pharmacy that manages investigational products for more than 170 outpatient studies conducted across the CU Anschutz campus, requiring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and high operational standards. In this role, the pharmacist ensures efficient daily operations by delivering high-quality customer service, maintaining compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, and upholding professional practice and administrative standards. The position also supports supervision of pharmacy technicians and contributes to clinical and academic initiatives. As CURP serves as an educational training site, this role includes responsibility for training and supervising pharmacy students and Research Fellows participating in academic rotations.

Requirements

  • PharmD Degree or equivalent
  • Licensure as a registered pharmacist in the State of Colorado.
  • Previous experience in pharmacy operations

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to support the development, implementation, and execution of high-quality, accurate pharmacy practices that ensure efficient and financially sound operations of the Clinical/Research Pharmacy (CURP), including:
  • Adhering to established standards of practice for the receipt, storage, temperature monitoring, dispensing, and disposal of investigational drugs.
  • Reviewing study protocols and related documentation to prepare clear, concise summaries and providing staff training on assigned clinical research protocols.
  • Communicating effectively (via email, phone, and in-person) with research personnel and study teams to support preparation for dispensing of a new study drug.
  • Exercise knowledge of contemporary pharmacy practice and regulatory standards in order to operate a research pharmacy which is fully compliant with applicable licensing, regulatory (local, State, and Federal), and product preparation and dispensing requirements for investigational drug units.
  • Participate and supervise in the compounding of sterile and non-sterile drugs in compliance with existing policies related to USP 795, 797, and 800.
  • Support daily pharmacy operations by assigning and overseeing work of pharmacy technicians involved in day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, as well as the education and mentoring of student pharmacists on rotation in the CURP
  • Utilize professional expertise and business acumen to effectively operate pharmacy systems, software applications, and equipment to optimize workflow efficiency and operational performance.
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability and effective resource management, supporting the financial sustainability of the CURP.
