About The Position

Denison University seeks a Senior Institutional Research Analyst for External Reporting to serve as the university's primary analyst for federal, state, and third-party external reporting. This is a high-impact role at the center of how Denison tells its story with data: you will manage the preparation and submission of major reports like IPEDS and the Common Data Set, build and automate modern reporting pipelines, and produce analyses and reports that directly inform enrollment, retention, student success, and academic planning. We're looking for a detail-oriented data professional who takes pride in accurate, defensible numbers, enjoys building reproducible processes, and wants their work to shape institutional decisions. The Senior Analyst joins the Office of Institutional Research, one of three offices that form Denison's Data and Decision Support team, a cross-divisional collaboration between Data Governance, Institutional Research, and Reporting & Data Architecture. Together, we partner with colleagues, teams, and departments to support institutional data efforts that improve operations, guide strategic initiatives, and inform leadership decisions. Within this team, Institutional Research partners with campus units to analyze data and translate research findings, produces visualizations and analytical briefs for campus partners, Senior Staff, and the Board, and manages required reporting to accrediting agencies, government agencies, and other external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, social science, data analytics, business, or related field (relevant experience can be substituted for education).
  • Two or more years in institutional research or data analytics in higher education, including external reporting (IPEDS, Common Data Set).
  • Proficiency with SQL and a scripting language (R, Python, or SAS).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a quantitatively oriented field, such as educational research, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience submitting IPEDS.
  • Experience with Banner, Snowflake, and Workday.
  • Familiarity with accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and validation of required reports to accrediting agencies, government agencies, and other compliance venues.
  • Serve as the institution's primary preparer for IPEDS and other external reports and as the resident expert for definitions and regulatory changes.
  • Manage the external reporting calendar; validate submissions, maintain documentation, and monitor federal, state, and agency requirements for timely compliance.
  • Build, optimize, and automate queries and reporting pipelines to produce accurate, reproducible reporting datasets; reconcile figures across submissions and over time for consistent, defensible numbers.
  • Respond to recurring and ad hoc requests from leadership and campus; produce benchmarking and institutional research analyses and reports that inform enrollment, retention, student success, and program review; support compliance and accreditation.
  • Maintain institutional data definitions and documentation to ensure consistent reporting standards; provide technical guidance to other data analysts and student interns.

  • 22 vacation days
  • 3 floating holidays
