Senior Industrial & Process Engineer

McCLARIN Composites•Wapato, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

McCLARIN Composites is seeking a Senior Industrial & Process Engineer to drive operational excellence across open fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), reaction injection molding (RIM) clamping, and resin infusion systems. The role leads process development focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost, with an emphasis on motion-time studies, tooling lifecycles, and mold cycle-time reduction. The position is on-site in Wapato, Washington, and offers a career growth track at an established manufacturing company. The engineer optimizes manufacturing processes and labor standards, manages composite and hard tooling assets, leads changeover-reduction workshops, and supports customer-facing new product development. The role also advances continuous improvement on the factory floor and mentors production personnel on process standards and work instructions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Plastics/Tool Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–10 years of direct manufacturing experience in advanced composites or plastics processing, with Open Mold, RIM, and Infusion experience required.
  • Strong technical background in mold construction, gelcoat and surface repairs, vacuum integrity troubleshooting, and mechanical or hydraulic clamp mechanisms.
  • High proficiency in CAD systems such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks for work-cell design and layout manipulation.
  • Mastery of standard data time systems, root-cause failure analysis (RCFA), print/drawing interpretation, and polymer/resin behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with resin flow or thermal simulation software.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, document, and refine manufacturing parameters to reduce cycle times for open FRP cure profiles, RIM clamp intervals, and resin infusion velocities while maintaining structural part integrity.
  • Conduct labor and motion time studies using MTM/MOST or standard data frameworks for manual layup, vacuum bagging, and demolding; remove non-value-added steps and establish accurate production standards.
  • Oversee composite and hard tooling assets through engineering release, initial tryouts, preventative maintenance, and mold preservation.
  • Lead SMED workshops to reduce changeover times for RIM clamps and heavy infusion tools and improve tool rotation efficiency.
  • Partner with customers during New Product Development, using Process FMEA (PFMEA) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) actions to support production launches.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma, during daily factory-floor SQDC huddles.
  • Teach and mentor production personnel on updated process standards and work instructions.
