About The Position

Penguin Random House, LLC is the world's largest general trade book publisher, a division of Bertelsmann AG. The Westminster Operations Center in Carroll County, Maryland, has an opportunity for a driven individual to join the Operations Services team. This role involves collaborating with people at all levels to strengthen the company's supply chain. The Operations Services department handles project management and data analysis, with recent projects including adding distribution centers, implementing a goods-to-person system, and developing distribution network models. This position offers growth opportunities and insight into the publishing industry's leading supply chain. The role supports major operational initiatives, including a large-scale automation and material handling implementation at the Crawfordsville Operations Center, and future initiatives at the Westminster facility and across the network. Success requires adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The role combines analysis, project management, and process improvement for distribution operations, involving evaluating existing processes, identifying improvements, and developing new approaches. Candidates must be comfortable working with data, building analyses in Excel, and communicating findings clearly. Responsibilities include contributing to analyses and projects focused on distribution operations, with opportunities for increasing ownership. Some projects require warehouse work, including time studies, flow chart development, system enhancement testing, and training. Other projects may involve developing activity-based costing and labor models, supporting warehouse management system implementations, designing new facilities, and implementing new automation and material handling solutions. The final title and compensation will align with the selected candidate's skills and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in industrial engineering, supply chain operations, or a related technical field
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in an industrial engineering, supply chain, distribution, manufacturing, or similarly complex operational environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience working with complex formulas
  • Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing conditions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across functions and levels of the organization
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects
  • Experience working with external vendors
  • Experience extracting, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets to communicate findings clearly
  • Experience implementing and supporting warehouse management systems, automation systems, or material handling equipment
