About The Position

Penguin Random House, LLC is the world's largest general trade book publisher and a division of Bertelsmann AG. The Crawfordsville Operations Center in Montgomery County, Indiana, has an opportunity for a driven individual to join the Operations Services team. This role involves collaborating with people at all levels to strengthen the supply chain in the publishing industry. The Operations Services department focuses on project management and data analysis, with recent projects including adding distribution centers, implementing a goods-to-person system, and developing distribution network models. This position offers significant growth opportunities within the publishing industry's leading supply chain. The role will contribute to major operational initiatives across the distribution network, including a large-scale automation and material handling implementation. It will also support future automation, material handling, and operational improvement initiatives at the Westminster facility and across the network. Success requires adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. The role combines analysis, project management, and process improvement to support distribution operations. Responsibilities include evaluating existing processes, identifying improvement opportunities, developing new approaches, and working with data, building analyses in Excel, and communicating findings. Projects may involve warehouse work such as time studies, flow chart development, system enhancement testing, training others, developing activity-based costing and labor models, supporting warehouse management system implementations, designing new facilities, and implementing new automation and material handling solutions. The final title and compensation will be aligned with the selected candidate's skills and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in industrial engineering, supply chain operations, or a related technical field
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in an industrial engineering, supply chain, distribution, manufacturing, or similarly complex operational environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience working with complex formulas
  • Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing conditions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across functions and levels of the organization
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects
  • Experience working with external vendors
  • Experience extracting, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets to communicate findings clearly
  • Experience implementing and supporting warehouse management systems, automation systems, or material handling equipment
