About The Position

The Senior Industrial Engineer is a seasoned technical leader responsible for driving strategic improvements across Plug Power's manufacturing operations and systems. The position independently leads complex, high-impact projects while serving as a key resource for engineering best practices, process innovation, and organizational capability building. The Senior IE is expected to influence operational strategy, champion a culture of continuous improvement, and develop the skills of junior and mid-level engineers across the Operations team.

Requirements

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or a STEM-related discipline required
  • 7+ years' experience in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, with demonstrated progression of responsibility
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar layout/simulation tools required
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems required
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence without direct authority
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Strong business acumen with ability to connect engineering decisions to financial and operational outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently and drive results in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams, process flow charts, facility layouts, and financial models

Nice To Haves

  • MS strongly preferred
  • Experience with simulation or digital twin tools a plus
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Black Belt or higher) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Plug Power's end-to-end manufacturing operations, including production workflows, capacity strategy, cost structure, material handling systems, and long-term scalability requirements
  • Lead the strategic design and optimization of facility layouts, production systems, and material flow paths to support current operations and future growth
  • Own enterprise-level capacity planning models and labor standards programs, providing actionable insights to Operations leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead high-impact continuous improvement initiatives using advanced Lean-Sigma methodologies; establish metrics and governance to sustain gains over time
  • Drive the development and standardization of manufacturing SOPs, work instructions, and engineering documentation across multiple product lines or facilities
  • Lead capital investment analyses, business case development, and ROI justifications for major equipment, tooling, and facility improvement projects
  • Partner with senior leadership across Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Product Engineering to align on operational priorities and influence strategic decision-making
  • Serve as a technical mentor and coach to junior engineering staff; contribute to onboarding, training program development, and knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Represent the Industrial Engineering function in cross-functional project teams, design reviews, and leadership presentations
  • Stay current on emerging industrial engineering tools, technologies, and industry best practices; introduce and pilot new methodologies where appropriate
  • Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
