About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This position is based onsite at the Parnall office in Jackson, MI, and requires the selected candidate to be within commuting distance or willing to relocate, with relocation assistance available for those who qualify. This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, TN, CPT, or STEM OPT. The Senior Industrial Engineer will be responsible for creating, developing, and implementing efficient utility and/or manufacturing systems to reduce costs while maintaining operational standards. This role involves leading studies on departmental processes and external industry practices to identify opportunities for streamlining production, improving overall efficiencies and quality, and reducing costs using lean principles. Key responsibilities include conducting complex time studies, analyzing data, developing process improvement plans, overseeing lower-level engineers and technicians on large projects, and developing training programs for employees on new processes and procedures to enhance productivity and quality while minimizing waste and costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience in advanced Industrial Engineering roles.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience in advanced Industrial Engineering roles.
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of ergonomics and applicable industry standards
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis and quality control procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems

Responsibilities

  • Develop ergonomic solutions to reduce injuries and improve employee comfort and productivity.
  • Conduct time studies and work sampling to determine the most efficient methods of performing tasks and analyze the data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop and implement systems to increase efficiency in all areas of production; includes but not limited to quality control, inventory management, employee productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Develop and maintain management information, planning, and control systems and designs and oversee the implementation of large and moderately complex production processes.
  • Identify and assess various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; apply this knowledge to maintain the organization’s competitive edge.
  • Design, redesign, or enhance work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineers to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and build ergonomics for new product lines.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.
