About the position
Life360 is seeking a Senior Indirect Tax Analyst to lead its indirect tax functions, including sales and use tax, GST, VAT, property tax, and other non-income business taxes. This role will report to the Director of Financial Reporting and will involve owning and managing all aspects of indirect tax compliance, working with third-party providers, developing methodologies for capturing and reporting use tax liabilities, and managing indirect tax controversies and audits. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, 5+ years of corporate tax experience, and excellent analytical and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Own and lead all indirect tax functions, including compliance and reporting
- Manage and work directly with third-party providers to prepare and file sales and use tax in the US
- Partner with accounting and purchasing personnel to develop methodologies for capturing and reporting use tax liabilities
- Review and/or prepare reconciliations of related sales and use tax general ledger accounts and related SOX documentation
- Manage product taxability configurations and system enablement, including nexus settings, product mappings, and enterprise application processes and enhancements
- Own all indirect tax controversies, including audits, notices, and VDAs
- Assist in planning for potential PLRs/ALRs
- Research and prepare required work papers and technical memos related to sales and use tax issues
- Own international transaction-related taxes, including VAT and GST
- Manage indirect tax risk globally, closely monitoring the dynamic landscape and assessing and implementing operational and compliance changes as required
- Provide indirect tax support to the business, including customer invoice and taxability support, customer and vendor contract review, customer exemption certificate advice, and ERP support
- Partner with third-party tax advisors to develop direct tax strategy, credits, deductions, and related worldwide planning to develop a holistic view for executive leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, with emphasis in accounting or finance
- Master's degree in Tax or Accounting and/or CPA preferred
- 5+ years of corporate tax experience including sales tax and VAT experience
- Public company multinational corporation experience and/ or public accounting firm experience (i.e., Big 4) preferred
- Commitment to continuous improvement
- Excellent analytical skills; detail oriented
- Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while successfully delivering results
- Experience using a range of financial systems, e.g. NetSuite, Recurly, Avalara
