About The Position

We are seeking a Senior IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) Systems Engineer with extensive experience in installing, configuring, administering, and maintaining IBM i systems. This role involves managing operating system upgrades, PTF management, performance monitoring, security, and supporting various initiatives like backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery. The engineer will also manage system resources, troubleshoot issues, support application teams, implement automation, and maintain documentation. Participation in production support and on-call rotations is expected.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting IBM i / AS/400 environments.
  • Strong experience with IBM i (i5/OS, OS/400), Power Systems, CL Programming (CLP), Control Language Commands, and System Administration.
  • Experience with PTF Management, System Save/Restore Procedures, Backup and Recovery, BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services), Job Scheduling, and Performance Monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of Libraries, Objects, Subsystems, Job Queues, Output Queues, and Security Administration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IBM Power10, Power9, or Power8 systems.
  • Experience with PowerHA, MIMIX, Quick-EDD, Robot Scheduler, Robot Console, and IBM Navigator for i.
  • Experience administering Db2 for i, Integrated File System (IFS), TCP/IP Networking, FTP/SFTP, and SSL/TLS Security.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies: PowerVM, VIOS, Logical Partitions (LPARs).
  • Experience with system performance tuning, storage optimization, job scheduling and workload management, capacity planning, high availability configuration, disaster recovery testing, security auditing and compliance, and hardware and operating system upgrades.
  • Preferred Software Experience: IBM i 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, or later, Db2 for i, BRMS, PowerHA, MIMIX, Robot Scheduler, Robot Console, IBM Navigator for i, PowerVM, VIOS.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across infrastructure, application, database, network, and security teams.
  • Experience supporting banking, manufacturing, insurance, retail, logistics, or healthcare organizations is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM i (AS/400) systems.

  • Maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in production support and on-call rotations.
