About The Position

We are seeking a Senior IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) Systems Engineer with extensive experience to join our team for a long-term contract. The role involves the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of IBM i systems, including operating system upgrades, PTF management, and performance optimization. You will be responsible for security, backup and recovery, job management, and troubleshooting. This position also supports application development teams, implements automation, and requires participation in production support and on-call rotations. Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills are essential, with a preference for experience in specific industries.

Requirements

5+ years of experience supporting IBM i / AS/400 environments.
Strong experience with IBM i (i5/OS, OS/400), Power Systems, CL Programming (CLP), Control Language Commands, and System Administration.
Experience with PTF Management, System Save/Restore Procedures, Backup and Recovery, BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services), Job Scheduling, and Performance Monitoring.
Strong knowledge of Libraries, Objects, Subsystems, Job Queues, Output Queues, and Security Administration.

Nice To Haves

Experience with IBM Power10, Power9, or Power8 systems.
Experience with PowerHA, MIMIX, Quick-EDD, Robot Scheduler, Robot Console, and IBM Navigator for i.
Experience administering Db2 for i, Integrated File System (IFS), TCP/IP Networking, FTP/SFTP, and SSL/TLS Security.
Familiarity with virtualization technologies: PowerVM, VIOS, Logical Partitions (LPARs).
System performance tuning.
Storage optimization.
Job scheduling and workload management.
Capacity planning.
High availability configuration.
Disaster recovery testing.
Security auditing and compliance.
Hardware and operating system upgrades.
Experience with IBM i 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, or later.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaborate across infrastructure, application, database, network, and security teams.
Experience supporting banking, manufacturing, insurance, retail, logistics, or healthcare organizations.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM i (AS/400) systems.
