About The Position

The National Hydrogeology and Geothermal Team at AtkinsRéalis specializes in groundwater characterization, numerical groundwater modelling, groundwater resource assessment and impact analysis, contaminant hydrogeology, geothermal potential assessment, thermal response testing, and geothermal system design. The team supports various sectors including transportation, infrastructure, water, defence, mining, industrial, nuclear, and power & renewables. This role is for a Senior Hydrogeologist to join the senior technical career track, providing advanced technical leadership, oversight, and assurance on complex national projects. It is intended for a highly experienced professional recognized for technical judgment, regulatory credibility, and scientific excellence, without formal line-management accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related earth‑science discipline.
  • Licensed professional (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) in good standing with the relevant provincial regulatory body in Canada.
  • Typically 15–20+ years of progressively responsible hydrogeology consulting experience, with demonstrated senior technical advisor responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to author, review, and defend high‑quality technical deliverables and clearly communicate complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal groundwater, water‑resources, and environmental regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with numerical groundwater modelling and/or geothermal systems is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior technical specialist/subject‑matter expert in hydrogeology and related disciplines.
  • Lead and critique hydrogeological conceptual models, investigation programs, and numerical groundwater modelling approaches to ensure alignment with best practice and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide senior technical review and quality assurance of hydrogeology deliverables, methodologies, and interpretations.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to project managers, clients, and regulators.
  • Provide senior technical input to permitting, environmental assessments, remediation strategies, and water‑resource decision‑making.
  • Contribute to project scoping, risk identification, proposal development, and client discussions from a technical leadership perspective.
  • Support technical innovation, service development, and strategic initiatives within the national hydrogeology and geothermal practices.
