About The Position

The Wyoming Department of Corrections is seeking an HVAC Specialist at the Wyoming Women’s Center. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, including heating systems, central air conditioning, refrigeration systems, oil burners, hot-air furnaces, and heating stoves. The role is essential in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient climate control throughout the facility. The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety, high correctional standards, and maintaining a safe, supportive working environment for employees. This position contributes directly to that mission by helping ensure facility systems operate safely and effectively. Established in 1981, the Wyoming Women’s Center serves as the primary education and treatment center for female inmates within the WDOC system. The facility provides programming, vocational opportunities, recreational activities, and educational services designed to support the WDOC mission of reducing recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycle, refrigerants, air conditioning, and related air handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of acceptable practices, methods, and tools used in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC-R Equipment.
  • 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist
  • Agency may require an EPA License.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to those with 3-4 years of progressive work experience in the HVAC field.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, adjusts, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical, direct digital controls, and electronic/pneumatic/mechanical temperature control devices on HVAC/R systems.
  • Conducts routine maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
  • Provides oversight on HVAC/R projects performed by outside contractors for code compliance, payments, design, and installation.
  • Works with professional engineers on project design and construction.
  • Designs and conducts cost estimates for the installation of environmental control units and facility support systems that need new systems or replacement systems.
  • Manages the procurement and use of ozone-depleting substances.
  • Conducts efficiency analysis on HVAC systems and proposes energy-saving modifications.
  • Utilizes infrared imaging for predictive maintenance.
  • Installs and maintains mechanical equipment, including maintaining car wash, hot water high-pressure washers, cafeteria kitchen appliances, precision lab ovens, lab refrigeration units, lab walk-in drying ovens, humidifiers, precision cooling units for server, radio, microwave, and telecom rooms, dispatch, and operations areas critical to the agency's mission and public safety.
  • Performs seasonal startup and shutdown of heating and air-conditioning plants and other related equipment.
  • Works around Hazardous and/or toxic materials.
  • Other duties as assigned
