About The Position

The Senior Manager, Benefits & HR Compliance serves as the primary owner and subject matter expert for Flow Control Group’s benefits and HR compliance programs across the United States and Canada, with coordination support for employees in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. This role is responsible for both the strategic design and the day-to-day operational execution of employee benefits, retirement programs, and compliance initiatives. Operating in a highly acquisitive and decentralized environment, this individual functions as a player-coach, leading program strategy while also ensuring the operational administration of benefits programs runs smoothly across the organization. Flow Control Group operates across more than 100 brands and 200 locations, requiring benefits programs that support a diverse workforce of corporate, technical, and field employees. This role partners closely with HR leadership, brokers, vendors, finance, and HRIS to ensure benefits programs remain competitive, compliant, and operationally effective as the company continues to grow. A significant portion of the role involves supporting mergers and acquisitions, including benefits due diligence, integration planning, and the transition of acquired employees onto company programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing employee benefits and HR compliance programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human resources, benefits administration, or related field.
  • Experience leading and independently managing enterprise benefits programs, including vendor relationships, plan administration, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience supporting benefits due diligence and integration during mergers and acquisitions.
  • Strong experience administering retirement plans, including vendor management, compliance oversight, audits, and plan transitions such as mergers or rollovers.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to interpret benefits data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Advanced understanding of employee benefits regulations, market trends, and program design across North America.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment and benefits regulations, with familiarity supporting Canadian benefits programs such as extended health and retirement savings plans preferred.
  • Experience managing disability, leave, and workers’ compensation programs across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms; Dayforce experience preferred.
  • Strong operational leadership and ability to manage complex benefits programs across multiple entities and locations.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically, with a willingness to engage directly in the operational details of benefits administration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex employee and vendor issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across HR, finance, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the strategy, design, administration, and ongoing governance of all employee benefits programs, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives across the United States and Canada.
  • Partners with brokers and vendors to design and implement benefits programs that align with Flow Control Group’s strategy and remain competitive in the external market while managing cost and sustainability.
  • Oversees the operational administration of benefits programs, ensuring enrollment, eligibility, carrier integrations, and program delivery function effectively across a decentralized workforce.
  • Leads the full lifecycle of the annual open enrollment process, including plan design updates, vendor coordination, system configuration, employee communications, education sessions, and post-enrollment reconciliation.
  • Works closely with the HRIS team to ensure benefits administration is properly configured within HR systems, including eligibility rules, plan updates, and carrier file integrations.
  • Processes and reviews monthly carrier invoices, ensuring billing accuracy, proper coding, and coordination of payments.
  • Serves as the escalation point for complex employee benefits issues, including claims problems, eligibility disputes, vendor service issues, and other escalated employee inquiries.
  • Oversees benefits-related help desk inquiries and escalations, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of employee issues related to eligibility, enrollment, claims, billing, and vendor services.
  • Develops and maintains effective employee benefits communications, including benefits guides, training sessions, and educational materials.
  • Provides benefits data analysis and reporting to leadership, including recommendations for program improvements and cost management opportunities.
  • Maintains relationships with benefits vendors and consultants while ensuring operational performance, resolving service issues, and holding vendors accountable to service expectations.
  • Serves as the HR lead for benefits integration during acquisitions.
  • Conducts benefits due diligence for acquired companies, reviewing health plans, retirement plans, and leave programs.
  • Develops transition strategies to integrate acquired employees into company benefit programs.
  • Manages retirement plan transitions including plan terminations, rollovers, or plan mergers in coordination with legal counsel and recordkeepers.
  • Leads employee education and communication efforts during benefits transitions.
  • Coordinates with finance, payroll, HRIS, and vendors to ensure smooth integration of benefit plans and eligibility structures.
  • Serves as a lead resource for HR compliance across the United States and Canada, ensuring adherence to applicable employment, tax, and benefits regulations.
  • Monitors changes in regulatory requirements and works with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure company programs remain compliant.
  • Ensures benefits and HR policies remain aligned with regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversees completion of required regulatory reporting and compliance activities, including government filings, workforce reporting, and annual compliance surveys.
  • Maintains and updates HR policies and documentation, including employee handbooks and company policy materials.
  • Supports administration of employee leave programs, disability programs, workers’ compensation coordination, and accommodation processes.
  • Conducts HR compliance reviews and process audits to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
