About The Position

McMillan Pazdan Smith is seeking a Senior Healthcare Planner - Advisory Services. This role involves leading healthcare planning projects, working directly with clients to understand and anticipate their needs, and managing project resources. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong proposal writing, scoping, pricing, and project execution skills. This position requires a leader who can foster client relationships, drive business development, and mentor junior team members. The role focuses on Acute Care and Ambulatory facilities and requires expertise in developing and implementing planning studies, understanding operational planning, and ensuring compliance with healthcare facility codes and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or related field.
  • Minimum 10-15 years relevant experience on planning healthcare projects (acute care, ambulatory, essential services, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Revit, Bluebeam, SketchUp, AutoCAD and other related tools to work in a multi-discipline team.
  • Strong technical and critical thinking skills that apply in development of planning projects and transfers into documentation, applying thorough understanding of codes, standards, and compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally accredited through the American College of Healthcare Architects.
  • Ideally has additional certification or accreditations for LEAN, EDAC, WELL AP, LEED AP, etc.
  • Proficiency in computational design preferred.
  • Proficiency in Power BI and Adobe Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate client needs and proactively solve problems.
  • Actively participate in decision-making with clients and client executives.
  • Develop polished proposals, scope projects, determine pricing, and manage project execution.
  • Manage the staffing of client managers.
  • Identify and lead process improvements to streamline internal project delivery.
  • Champion internal change management and team coaching.
  • Lead clients and teams to achieve consensus.
  • Lead project QA, QC, and project risk management.
  • Support service area and practice area leaders in service line development, planning, and billing.
  • Take the lead in any aspect of project delivery as needed.
  • Actively participate in thought leadership (blogs, podcasts, conferences, white papers).
  • Build collaborative and productive relationships with junior advisors and clients.
  • Contribute to and support new product/service lines and development.
  • Champion the use of tools and analytics.
  • Lead and coordinate project pursuits and be heavily engaged in business development.
  • Develop and lead client and internal workshops using subject matter and project delivery expertise.
  • Perform in a variety of roles through the full project life cycle with both specialist and functional knowledge.
  • Act as a leader and mentor to team members and respective practice area members.
  • Contribute to product development and lead a service/product line.
  • Assist in aligning the team culturally and with MPS mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop and implement planning studies.
  • Understand operational planning, facilities management, facility construction, and managing lease agreements and policies.
  • Research, investigate, and document healthcare facility existing conditions and adequacy in accordance with applicable codes, FGI, and best practices.
  • Support strategy related planning solutions, including forecasting need and driving facility demand.
  • Analyze and develop plans to assist with the development and evaluation of site criteria regarding client and clinical needs.
  • Manage space and functional program documentation.
  • Provide Revit, AutoCAD, and graphic support for healthcare facility and strategic planning activities.
  • Analyze existing facilities via assessment of square footage and key room quantity information against owner and industry benchmarks and standards.
  • Develop space planning concepts, test fits, and evaluations.
  • Participate in and/or lead facility walkthroughs (GEMBA walks).
  • Facilitate user/focus group sessions in planning, programming, schematic design, and design development meetings.
  • Apply healthcare delivery models and develop operational alternatives with supporting space requirements.
  • Support development of complete healthcare planning documentation, facility master planning, and functional planning.
