Rayonier is seeking a high-caliber and experienced Senior Harvesting & Roads Manager to lead and integrate all aspects of timber production and infrastructure for our Pacific Region. This critical role is based out of Hoquiam, Washington and is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of timber sales, harvesting, engineering, and road management across a diverse land base. You will be responsible for championing operational excellence, financial performance, and sustainable practices while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.

Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in forestry, Forest Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years in timber harvesting and road construction, with at least five (5) years in forest engineering and tactical planning.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS, RoadEng, and Microsoft 365 applications. You must possess advanced knowledge of engineering and surveying techniques and be able to interpret deeds and legal descriptions.
  • Business Acumen: Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control. You are proficient at planning and estimating costs for forestry projects.
  • Leadership & Communication: Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop others. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
  • Core Forestry Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of forest management principles, including logging and road construction. You have a thorough understanding of Washington and Oregon Forest Practices Rules, SFI standards, BMPs, and relevant safety laws.

  • A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Timber Harvesting & Operations: Develop and implement annual harvest plans and multi-year road construction schedules while overseeing all timber harvest and stumpage sales. You will manage wood flows, assist with operations budgets and forecasts, and ensure all log deliveries meet strict quality and performance standards.
  • Engineering & Road Management: Lead logging engineering activities including timber sale design, road design, and bridge construction. You will manage the engineering budget and oversee road construction and maintenance, including rock pit development and bridge inspections—to maximize productivity and ROI.
  • Contractor Management: Negotiate contracts and develop bid materials as directed by leadership. You will ensure all contractors comply with company policies, safety protocols, and rigorous performance standards.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Provide leadership that fosters a culture of collaboration and accountability to empower team members. You will partner with cross-functional departments such as Real Estate and Business Development to support strategic business decisions and coordinate on land resource requests.
  • Safety & Compliance: Embrace and promote Rayonier’s safety culture. You will obtain all necessary permits and ensure strict compliance with SFI standards, state Forest Practices, and environmental laws.

  • Our pay range for this position is $85,400 to $128,000 based on knowledge and experience. This position is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan and our long-term incentive plan (note: only if applicable grade).
