Senior Harness Engineer

Endurance Energy•Seattle, WA
•$150,000 - $225,000•Onsite

About The Position

Endurance is building modular subsea geothermal power plants to convert ocean-floor thermal resources into baseload power. The company is backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72 Ventures, and its founding team includes veterans from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. Endurance has completed deep-ocean deployments to subsea volcanoes and is launching a long-term demonstration project. The Senior Harness Engineer owns the design and implementation of power, data, and signal interconnections for subsea hardware. This is a design-ownership role: the engineer turns schematics and interface documents into complete harness designs, including connector and cable selection, shielding and grounding strategies, routing and strain relief, overmold and penetrator approaches, termination specifications, drawings, and bills of materials. The role also determines which work is done in-house or by external partners and qualifies and manages harness shops, connector vendors, and molders. The work has a substantial impact on deployment success because harness failures are a common cause of subsea hardware losses.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of engineering experience designing and delivering wiring harnesses or electrical interconnects for complex hardware systems.
  • Strong understanding of connectors, cable construction, shielding, grounding, signal integrity, and field failure modes of harnesses.
  • Experience producing harness drawings, bills of materials, termination specifications, and 3D CAD layouts; Siemens NX is given as an example.
  • Working knowledge of harness test methods, including hipot, insulation resistance, and continuity testing.
  • Hands-on experience building and terminating prototypes.
  • Ability to perform basic PCBA or component-level electrical measurements and debugging.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with technicians, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment where designs evolve rapidly.
  • Ability to work onsite in Seattle and travel to deployment sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing harnesses for marine, subsea, aerospace, or defense systems.
  • Experience with wet-mate and dry-mate subsea connectors, penetrators, overmolding, and PBOF systems.
  • Experience pressure-testing or qualifying subsea assemblies.
  • Experience debugging electrical systems and circuit boards.
  • Experience qualifying and managing harness manufacturers or connector suppliers.
  • Certification in or knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and related assembly and inspection standards.

Responsibilities

  • Own harness design for subsea deployment and test systems, from interface definition through released drawings.
  • Participate in and own technical trades that balance stakeholder objectives and shape system architecture, including decisions about physically partitioning subsystems.
  • Produce harness drawings, physical layouts in CAD, bills of materials, and termination specifications.
  • Define each harness's manufacturing plan, including in-house or partner production, required tooling, and build sequence.
  • Help identify and qualify external harness manufacturers, connector and cable suppliers, and overmolding partners.
  • Define acceptance test requirements for continuity, hipot, insulation resistance, and pressure, and review results with the build team.
  • Partner with the production team on design for manufacturing, assembly tooling, and work instructions, and incorporate build feedback into designs.
  • Troubleshoot harness and interconnect faults on test systems and deployed hardware, and drive root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Help develop harness standards and the supplier base as the company scales from demonstration to commercial systems.
  • Investigate new technologies and approaches to address the company's requirements.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and equity packages for full-time employees; equity is described as a significant part of compensation and is granted to every full-time employee.
  • Health insurance coverage.
  • Dental insurance coverage.
  • Vision insurance coverage.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • 12 paid company holidays.
  • Travel to deployment sites along oceanic ridges, including locations such as the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores.
  • Participation in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions.
  • Company-sponsored recreational dive certification.
  • Access to the company boat.
  • Free meals and snacks.
