About The Position

VTG is seeking a Senior Hardware/Software Installation Technician to support our customer. This role involves monitoring, operating, and maintaining hardware and software for computing platforms, organizing and directing hardware installations, assessing site network configurations, and maintaining disaster recovery procedures. The technician will also design and optimize network topologies, analyze hardware requirements, and prepare specifications for acquisitions. Key responsibilities include directing the preparation of engineering plans, site installation technical design packages, and installation schedules, as well as mobilizing installation teams and documenting configuration changes. The role also requires preparing site installation and test reports, coordinating post-installation support, performing system backups and recovery, and auditing hardware/software inventory for integrity and licensing compliance. Additionally, the technician will update site administration manual documentation and may provide user orientation. A significant part of the role involves repairing electronic equipment, diagnosing malfunctions, testing components, replacing defective parts, and calibrating equipment. Maintaining repair records and potentially entering data for program copies or schematic modifications are also included. The role may also involve installing equipment in various settings and operating specific equipment, potentially requiring a governmental agency license.

Requirements

BA/BS in a technical discipline
At least 5 years of experience
Must have and maintain a Secret clearance
Eligible for a Top Secret clearance

Responsibilities

Monitors, operates and maintains hardware, and software, for a computing platform.
Organizes and directs hardware installations on site surveys.
Assesses and documents current site network configuration and user requirements.
Maintains disaster recovery procedures for hardware and resident software, and related network communications equipment.
Designs and optimizes network topologies.
Analyzes and develops new hardware requirements and prepares specifications for hardware acquisitions.
Directs and leads preparation of engineering plans and site installation technical design packages.
Develops hardware installation schedules.
Mobilizes installation team.
Directs and leads preparation of drawings documenting configuration changes at each site.
Prepares site installation and test reports.
Coordinates post installation operations and maintenance support.
Performs system backup and recovery activities.
Audits the hardware/software inventory to ensure integrity as well as licensing compliance.
Updates and maintains site administration manual documentation.
May provide user orientation on hardware and software operations.
Repairs electronic equipment, such as computers, industrial controls, audio and video systems, radar systems, telemetering and missile control systems, transmitters, antennas, and servomechanisms, following blueprints and manufacturers' specifications, and using hand tools and test instruments.
Converses with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown, and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems.
Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects, using oscilloscopes, signal generators, ammeters, and voltmeters.
Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts, using hand tools and soldering iron.
Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to specifications.
Calibrates testing instruments.
Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.
May enter information into computer to copy program from one electronic component to another, or to draw, modify or to store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used.
May install equipment in industrial or military establishments and in aircraft and missiles.
May operate equipment, such as communication equipment or missile control systems in ground and flight test, and be required to hold license from governmental agency.
