Senior Hardware Product Manager

Hudson River TradingChicago, IL
$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Senior Hardware Product Manager to design and engineer the hardware product lines across our global trading environment. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded engineer – someone who knows finite element analysis, thermodynamics, measurement and instrumentation, manages projects, negotiates fiercely with vendors, and still geeks out over the best way to route DLC piping through a chassis. If you get a thrill from driving projects with diverse requirements to achieve an elegant hardware design, this role is for you.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in hardware product engineering or product management, with mechanical or electrical engineering experience (PE/FE) strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with ODM and JDM vendors is strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the mechanical and electrical design of a production rackmount server.
  • Direct experience with DLC systems is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to confidently go toe-to-toe with a vendor's engineering team during a design review.
  • Strong understanding of a production rack, from network and hardware through power and cooling dynamics.
  • Knowledge of the laws of thermodynamics and how they apply to a datacenter setting.
  • Familiarity with Open Compute Project, MGX, heat rejection and voltage rack standards.
  • PCIe, Redfish, OpenBMC knowledge is desirable.
  • Linux server experience is desirable.
  • Highly autonomous, with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mentality.
  • Passion for engineering excellence and data-driven design.

Nice To Haves

  • Knows finite element analysis, thermodynamics, measurement and instrumentation.
  • Geeks out over the best way to route DLC piping through a chassis.
  • Gets a thrill from driving projects with diverse requirements to achieve an elegant hardware design.
  • Comfortable prototyping and lab-testing product lines and delivering them to production.
  • Comfortable being the point of contact with hardware vendors.
  • Can manage BOMs, RFQs, and RFPs.
  • Excited about CAD designs and data visualizations.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements directly from trading teams, drive system designs, overhaul underperforming components and designs, and retire legacy lines.
  • Understand board, server, and rack design, and can connect that to the datacenter.
  • Prototype and lab-test product lines and deliver them to production.
  • Manage relationships with ODM and JDM partners and hold them accountable to delivery milestones through the full lifecycle of board and server designs.
  • Bridge between requirements and deliverables.
  • Speak the hardware layer's language (PCIe topology, air and coolant flows, voltage and signal integrity) and be able to connect that to the network, OS, and application layers.
  • Manage BOMs, RFQs, and RFPs.
  • Be the point of contact with hardware vendors.
  • Execute independently today while scaling to lead a team tomorrow.
  • Travel, build on-the-ground vendor relationships, and navigate regional market nuances.
