Senior Hardware Engineer, Radar Systems

HRL Laboratories•Calabasas, CA
•$140,700 - $175,950

About The Position

HRL Laboratories is seeking a highly experienced engineer to lead the development of next-generation radar technologies, advancing them from research and development into prototypes and products such as active electronically scanned arrays (AESA). The role supports technical strategies and roadmaps, leads engineering teams, and drives innovative product development for customers. The Sensing and Communication Systems Division develops advanced radar and communication systems through expertise in RFIC and MMIC circuit design, advanced packaging, antenna design, system prototyping, signal processing, integration, and characterization. HRL develops radiofrequency, millimeter-wave, and electro-optical sensors using advanced materials and device fabrication processes, with an emphasis on high-performance, integrated, low-cost systems optimized for size, weight, and power efficiency. The position requires technical leadership across radar hardware, software, systems integration, and testing, as well as oversight of system architecture and engineering compliance with customer requirements. Additional activities include invention disclosures, publications, customer briefings, and proposal and marketing work. The role involves working with customers and colleagues, traveling, and contributing to complex projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance are required; an active clearance is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with system analysis, system architecture, requirements development, trade studies, modeling and simulation, integration and test, and data analysis.
  • Experience with advanced microelectronic packaging and manufacturing, and high-frequency and electromagnetic simulation tools.
  • Understanding of DoD missions and the technology acquisition process.
  • Familiarity with military regulations and standards (MIL-STD) and RF hardware.
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles and working with technical teams to ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor large multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Ability to interact professionally with program managers, coworkers, and customers; perform detailed analyses; and prepare written and oral presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work on complex projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
