About The Position
CHAOS Industries is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Guidance Software Engineer to join its R&D team. The role will lead the design of guidance software for a clean-sheet airframe design, with opportunities to expand expertise across the company’s product families. This is a full-time, on-site position in the company’s Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California office.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 10 or more years of professional object-oriented software development experience.
- Experience designing and implementing guidance algorithms for UAS platforms using commercial autopilot frameworks such as ArduPilot.
- Practical understanding of flight dynamics for fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms.
- Solid understanding of and extensive experience developing software on microcontroller architectures such as STM32, and on Linux hosted on Nvidia Jetson, AMD/Xilinx SoC, or Microblaze architectures.
- Experience developing real-time embedded software, including hardware interfaces.
- Experience integrating vendor-provided low-level drivers and firmware.
- Experience with Agile lifecycle processes, including Scrum, Continuous Integration, and Test-Driven Development methodologies.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate on small teams.
- U.S. Person status is required because the position requires the ability to access U.S.-only data systems.
Nice To Haves
- Current or previous DoD security clearance.
- Part 107 remote pilot certification.
- Experience with EO/IR sensor integration.
- Experience with radar sensor integration.
- Experience developing firmware using VHDL and using embedded software development flows on AMD/Xilinx FPGAs.
- Experience with Git.
- Experience with production-level software development and deployment, including DevOps, DevSecOps, and/or CI/CD using modern FOSS/COTS toolsets.
- Experience with full-lifecycle software development of high-TRL systems.
- Experience with hardware/software integration and test (I&T) and verification and validation (V&V) of high-TRL systems.
Responsibilities
- Implement guidance and navigation software within COTS software frameworks.
- Support airframe design activities.
- Support system integration of software on flight hardware.
- Work full-time on-site in the Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California office.
