The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Grounds Keeper! This full-time, permanent position in Honolulu involves supervising and assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of park facilities and surrounding grounds.

Requirements

Citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas.
Able to care for and grow shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns.
Able to use and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
Able to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
Able to give and follow clear oral and written instructions.
Able to operate hand and power tools for grounds maintenance.
Able to take care of plants, trees, and turf properly.
Able to promote and enforce safe work practices.
Valid Hawaii State Driver's License (Type 3/automobile) at time of application.
Obtain and maintain from City Health Services, Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

Supervise and perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, watering, and cleaning parks, facilities, parking lots, and right-of-ways.
Lead and oversee work crews including maintenance personnel and community service workers by assigning daily tasks and ensuring productivity.
Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment to transport staff, supplies, and materials and perform basic upkeep.
Train staff on maintenance and safety practices including proper use and care of tools and equipment.
Inspect parks, facilities, equipment, and contractor-maintained areas to identify damage, vandalism, and needed repairs.
Manage schedules and coordinate park usage including permits, reporting issues, and assisting with minor repairs.
Perform other related duties as required.
