The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Grounds Keeper! This full-time, permanent position in Honolulu involves supervising and assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of park facilities and surrounding grounds.

Requirements

  • Citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
  • Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas.
  • Able to care for and grow shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns.
  • Able to use and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Able to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
  • Able to give and follow clear oral and written instructions.
  • Able to operate hand and power tools for grounds maintenance.
  • Able to take care of plants, trees, and turf properly.
  • Able to promote and enforce safe work practices.
  • Valid Hawaii State Driver's License (Type 3/automobile) at time of application.
  • Obtain and maintain from City Health Services, Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, watering, and cleaning parks, facilities, parking lots, and right-of-ways.
  • Lead and oversee work crews including maintenance personnel and community service workers by assigning daily tasks and ensuring productivity.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment to transport staff, supplies, and materials and perform basic upkeep.
  • Train staff on maintenance and safety practices including proper use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Inspect parks, facilities, equipment, and contractor-maintained areas to identify damage, vandalism, and needed repairs.
  • Manage schedules and coordinate park usage including permits, reporting issues, and assisting with minor repairs.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
