Responsible for more complex grants and/or broader scope and may lead/supervise one or more grant assistant/specialists. May also oversee Center grants. This role performs pre-award and award management duties for complex proposals, including program projects, ARPA-H, DOD, and DOE applications with minimal guidance. The specialist will work with faculty in proposal preparation and submission, manage budgeting, analysis, and justifications, and serve as a liaison between the Chair, Faculty, and Department Administrators. They will stay current on federal and university developments regarding research administration and complex regulations. The role also involves managing reviews of award notices, monitoring annual agency reports, and coordinating the transfer of grants and contracts. Additionally, the Senior Grants Specialist will coordinate research compliance, assist with research reporting and analysis of grant metrics, and be responsible for the closure of complex sponsored projects accounts. Post-award responsibilities include managing complex sponsored projects budgets, approving purchasing documents, managing subawards, troubleshooting fund profile setups and financial reports, and corresponding with granting agencies. The specialist will also serve as an internal liaison with SPA, ensure human and animal study protocols are associated with awards, and obtain documentation on foreign nationals. They will communicate with leadership on pre- and post-award activities to ensure high customer service, track grants, prepare monthly financial reports, assist with reconciling funds, and process budget adjustments. The role may also involve preparing and submitting invoices and assisting senior leadership with special projects.
