The Senior Grant Accountant provides accurate and timely reports of financial transactions to internal and external stakeholders. Through the interaction with all areas of finance, the successful candidate will apply general accepted accounting principles in the preparation of statements of activity for the programs and grants as well as monthly billings and restricted asset release. The Senior Grant Accountant will engage a wide range of finance and program departments to provide a clear performance picture across all funding sources that include federal, private, and foundation funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or related field
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with federal and private funding contracts and billing.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to research 0MB Uniform Guidance, understand, and apply complex federal, state, local, and other laws, regulations and guidelines to various accounting, payroll, and grant related functions and procedures.
  • Advanced Excel Skills (Pivot Tables, V-Lookups etc.).
  • Problem solving/analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Utilize sound judgment and decision making skills, solve problems quickly and effectively, meet multiple deadlines and to work effectively under pressure in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detailed-oriented and proven results in accuracy.
  • Ability to maneuver in various software applications and programs.
  • Data entry accuracy and proofing capability.
  • Knowledge of and experience with accounting software, and Word processing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage program funding, private and/or federal funding.
  • Manage general accounting activities of program including daily operations, maintenance of general ledger, sub-systems, financial review and analysis to ensure the records are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and closeout billings as needed for each grant using various defined formats by the funding agency meeting required deadlines and submits billings for grants in a timely manner.
  • Interface with greater finance staff for payroll, shared costs, and allocation transactions, to ensure proper account coding and proper use of funds under grant terms
  • Prepare reports for Board of Directors and Committees as well as internal reports for department and executive team.
  • Report monthly on expenditures and assist in developing overall spending strategy.
  • Periodically meet with program director to review solutions for accounting and reporting needs.
  • Assist with audits and monitor visits.
  • Create and manage budgets.
  • Follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Uniform Guidance.
  • Maintain financial security by following internal controls and established policies.
  • Assist with SEFA preparation and Single Audit.
  • Assist Financial Reporting team with journal entries, report preparation, and revenue recognition and reconciliation.
  • Perform other duties as required by Supervisor.
