About The Position

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has an exciting TERM LIMITED TEMPORARY (TLT) Senior Grant Accountant opportunity for its General Ledger and Cost Accounting group. This position will provide technical expertise for the complex functions with the City's financial system, PeopleSoft. This Temporary Senior Accountant will perform complex data analysis, develop queries, balance large volume of data, recommend process improvement, and assist in the preparation of SPU's three audited financial statements. This position will work closely with four Principal Accountants, Budget, and Rates staff, and will also assist Accountants with reconciliation and sophisticated journals. This TEMPORARY opportunity is benefitted and is expected to last through mid-August 2027. Requirements

  • Requires three (3) years' professional experience in general or governmental accounting
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related discipline - requires satisfactory completion of at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting with no substitution allowed ( if no degree two (2) additional years of qualifying accounting experience is required)
  • A combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class, will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other large enterprise resource planning (ERP) financial system, as well as experience using complex reconciliations using Excel
  • Experience leading complex accounting projects and management of various grand funding and loan processes

Responsibilities

  • Provide grant and loan accounting leadership for department
  • Collaborate with project managers, finance, A/R, law and other City departments on grant/loan inquiry and reporting
  • Formulate new reports and business processes.
  • Timely submittal of reimbursement documents for the various funding agencies and maintain accurate information on fund availability
  • Report on various accounting and audit requirements such as SEFA and SESA
  • Knowledgeable in federal and state grant/loan guidelines (2 CFR, 200/ Yellow Book), compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAAP), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
