Requirements

  • University graduation in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Science, or Business Administration (or a related field) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with related governance legislation such as the Government Organization Act, Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act, Conflicts of Interest Act, ATIA, and Interpretation Act.
  • Knowledge of public agency compensation guidelines and practices in Alberta
  • Familiarity with ARTS processes
  • Experience working with analyzing data and preparing reports to provide technical advice in regards to legislation and developing policy in a Governmental capacity

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert advice and guidance on agency governance, legislative compliance, and accountability requirements for Alberta's ABCs.
  • Monitoring governance practices and identifying issues, risks, and opportunities to strengthen agency oversight and compliance.
  • Leading and coordinating recruitment and appointment processes for board members, ensuring adherence to legislative, policy, and procedural requirements.
  • Preparing and reviewing briefing materials, Cabinet packages, Ministerial Orders, Recommendations for Order in Council, and related documentation.
  • Supporting strategic planning, policy development, and governance improvement initiatives through research, analysis, and jurisdictional scanning.
  • Preparing responses to Action Requests and information requests and providing operational support to advance branch priorities and deliverables.
