Senior GNC Engineer

Castelion Corporation•Rio Rancho, NM

About The Position

Castelion is seeking a Senior GNC Engineer to develop guidance, navigation, and control solutions for its long-range hypersonic strike vehicles. The role helps enable stable, precise, and adaptive flight performance across mission phases. The engineer will work hands-on with multidisciplinary teams to design, analyze, implement, and validate control and autopilot algorithms in a fast-paced, hardware-driven environment. The position may require access to classified information or restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information. If designated, employment may depend on obtaining and maintaining the required security clearance or other government authorization and meeting applicable citizenship or eligibility requirements. The role requires access to export-controlled information; employment is contingent on the candidate being able to access the applicable information without additional export licensing. Castelion is an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider reasonable accommodation requests in accordance with applicable law.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in control-system design, analysis, and validation for aerospace or high-performance dynamic systems.
  • Strong background in classical and modern control theory, including adaptive, nonlinear, and robust control methods.
  • Experience developing autopilot algorithms for missiles, rockets, hypersonic vehicles, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modeling and simulation tools.
  • Experience with 3DOF and 6DOF simulation environments and real-time control implementation.
  • Familiarity with flight-software integration and real-time embedded systems.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hardware-rich, high-flight-cadence environment.
  • Ability to access applicable export-controlled information without requiring additional export licensing; additional clearance or government authorization requirements may apply if the position is designated.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop flight control and autopilot algorithms for high-speed flight vehicles across atmospheric and exo-atmospheric regimes.
  • Develop and implement advanced control strategies, including adaptive and robust control methods, to support performance under uncertain and dynamic conditions.
  • Conduct 3DOF/6DOF modeling, simulation, and analysis to evaluate control-system performance, stability, and robustness.
  • Work with avionics, flight sciences, mechanisms, and flight software teams to integrate control algorithms into real-time embedded systems.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, flight testing, and post-flight analysis, using results to improve systems.
  • Analyze vehicle dynamics, actuator behavior, and sensor characteristics to inform control-system design and tuning.
  • Develop tools and frameworks for control-system design, verification, and validation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to GNC and control-system development best practices.
  • Partner with program leadership on technical trades aligned with mission success.

Benefits

  • Castelion offers a generous benefits package; details are available at the bottom of its Careers page.
