About The Position

The Senior Global Economist (SEG) is a strategic professional who closely follows and deeply understand developments in the global economy and financial markets. The SEG draws on this understanding to produce a range of high-quality products and analysis to meet the needs of key stakeholders. The SEG interacts closely with external and internal clients, including through Citi conferences, client calls, and media interviews. The SEG partners with the Global Chief Economist in shaping the work program for Global Economics and managing juniors on the team. Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), as well as comfort with econometrics and other quantitative/empirical tools, are essential. The SEG shows commercial awareness and is an acknowledged authority in the field of global economics, markets, and policy.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Advanced empirical and technical skills; deep experience working with macro data
  • Good interpersonal skills and proven team player with leadership potential
  • Possess a positive attitude, drive, and initiative
  • Secure and maintain applicable licenses

Responsibilities

  • Produce regular, clear, and insightful written analysis of global economic and policy developments, including examination of the underlying factors that drive currency, bond, and equity markets
  • Develop strong relationships and engage in regular dialogue with key stakeholders, including external and internal clients; address bespoke questions and requests from clients; participate regularly in Citi client conferences, one-on-one client meetings, client calls, and other client-oriented events
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Chief Economist in shaping and implementing the work program in Global Economics, including the continued integration of AI tools; interact broadly with colleagues throughout the firm
  • Skillfully deploy the tools of empirical economics, including econometrics and data visualization techniques; move expertly across the data universe, with facility for various types and sources of data
  • Represent Citi views in the media and participate in other high-visibility industry and professional events
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead teams and supervise juniors
  • Engage in Citi’s broader corporate objectives, such as recruitment and training of junior analysts and associates
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
