About The Position

Join a collaborative team where Geographic Information System is a core technology supporting engineering, facilities, planning, asset management, and business operations. The Facilities Management department is seeking an experienced Senior GIS Engineering Technician to bring their technical skills and collaborative mindset to a team that values innovation. Your work will directly impact infrastructure projects, operational decision-making, and the quality of data relied upon throughout the organization. The selected candidate will solve technical challenges, maintain and administer enterprise GIS infrastructure utilizing ESRI technologies to support projects through innovative mapping and data management. They will effectively manage and integrate a variety of geospatial data including vector, raster, CAD, BIM, survey, GPS, and engineering datasets to support organizational operations and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in GIS systems computer science or a closely related discipline.
  • Six years of GIS systems management experience involving the use of ESRI software including ArcGIS Pro and Portal for ArcGIS.
  • Four years of BIM experience involving the use of Autodesk Revit software.
  • Or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.

  • Leveraging Technology: Expertise in preferred technologies utilized for drafting, spatial data analysis, visualization, data collection, publishing and managing web-based services; proficiency in geodatabase editing, management, and spatial data manipulation.
  • Problem-Solving: Capable of conducting technical research and analyzing complex engineering drawings to develop effective solutions and innovative and analytical approach to solving technical problems.
  • Quality Control: Knowledgeable in quality control processes, ensuring work by colleagues and contractors meets standards and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for enterprise GIS operations, administering ESRI technologies including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Portal, server-side GIS applications, and enterprise geodatabases.
  • Maintain the organization's authoritative geospatial data library, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, security, and accessibility of enterprise GIS data.
  • Support the integration of GIS with enterprise business systems, including Business Intelligence (BI) platforms, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and other applications that rely on geospatial information.
  • Troubleshoot GIS system issues, recommend technology improvements, and implement best practices to enhance system performance and data management.
  • Collect, validate, analyze, and maintain geospatial data from field investigations and multiple organizational departments, including Facilities Management Division (FMD), Airport Development & Construction (ADC), and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and integrate GIS, CAD, and BIM datasets to ensure current, accurate, and consistent engineering and operational records.
  • Perform advanced spatial analysis, quality assurance, and data validation to support engineering, planning, asset management, and operational decision-making.
  • Produce maps, lease plat exhibits, engineering graphics, technical drawings, and reports to support planning, design, construction, leasing, and operational projects.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and ensure all mapping products adhere to established organizational standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders who support organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate and or lead the work of technical staff and retained consultants on GIS-related projects, providing technical guidance and ensuring quality deliverables.
  • Drive and operate Authority vehicles to multiple work sites around the SAN campus.
