About The Position

S&ME is seeking a full-time Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its team in New Albany, Indiana. The role serves as a technical and project leader, guiding geotechnical projects from early planning through final delivery while upholding safety, quality, and performance standards. The engineer applies advanced knowledge of subsurface investigations, analysis, and design to develop practical solutions for challenging site conditions.

The position involves working with clients and project partners, supporting business development and long-term client relationships, mentoring junior engineers, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and refining processes to improve efficiency and consistency. The role offers professional training, mentorship, and opportunities to work on challenging projects. Pay is competitive and based on experience. Candidates must meet S&ME's Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements and have valid employment eligibility; visa assistance is not available.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining, or a related engineering field.
• A minimum of 8 years of project management experience in the A/E/C industry.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
• Strong computer skills, including at minimum Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
• Valid employment eligibility (I-9).
• Compliance with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee advanced geotechnical evaluations involving foundations, settlement, slope stability, and earth support systems.
• Recommend appropriate ground improvement or mitigation methods.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to support successful project execution.
• Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to junior staff.
• Prepare clear, well-organized technical reports and contribute to project proposals.
• Support marketing and client relationship-building activities.
• Promote best practices and maintain compliance with company standards.
• Emphasize safety, risk management, schedule adherence, and quality control throughout project work.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and refine processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
