About The Position

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their Mining Environmental Group in either their Sudbury or Toronto office. This role will support and lead geotechnical aspects of mining projects, with a focus on tailings storage facilities (TSFs), mine waste, and water management. Career development can be managed to support personal preferences such as niche, technical design specialists, or project participation in both technical dam engineering scopes and project management, or all-round dam engineering specialists, such as the responsible persons or Engineers of Record. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to contribute to complex, large-scale global projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure in Canada
  • 10 - 15 years of civil design experience, with five years related to mine waste management projects.
  • Background in geotechnical design, with a focus on dams, embankments, and slopes.
  • Demonstrated experience with dam design, slope stability, seepage analysis, and site investigation
  • Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, including laboratory and field testing
  • Experience working in safety-focused environments with incident reporting requirements
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities
  • Perform and contribute to risk assessments, dam safety evaluations, and risk-based decision-making
  • Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external partners on field programs and engineering solutions
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses, including slope stability and seepage assessments
  • Oversee site investigations, laboratory testing, and earthworks activities
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and staff
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships throughout project lifecycles
  • Utilize industry-standard software and tools for analysis and design
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training
