Senior GCP Network Engineer

Cynet Systems•Pleasanton, CA

About The Position

An L3 GCP Network Engineer is a senior engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing complex network architectures on GCP, while serving as the final escalation point for critical issues. The role works with architects, security teams, and stakeholders to ensure network designs meet business, security, and compliance requirements, including data residency and regulatory constraints. The engineer defines network standards and best practices, drives automation and Infrastructure as Code for network changes, mentors L1/L2 engineers, and evaluates new GCP networking features and third-party solutions. The stated pay range is $46.00–$51.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of network engineering experience, with strong experience across routing, switching, firewalls, and large-scale networks, along with substantial hands-on GCP networking.
  • Deep knowledge of routing protocols and enterprise networking concepts, including BGP, OSPF/IGP, VRFs, MPLS or SD-WAN concepts, VPN, QoS, and high availability.
  • Proven experience designing and operating production GCP networks or equivalent cloud systems at scale, including hybrid connectivity and multi-region architectures.
  • Strong experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and pipelines for network deployments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications strongly preferred: Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect, CCNP/CCIE, or equivalent senior networking credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect secure, highly available, and scalable GCP network topologies, including multi-VPC, hub-and-spoke, Shared VPC, hybrid, and multi-cloud connectivity.
  • Lead implementation of advanced networking capabilities, including Cloud Interconnect, Cloud VPN topologies, global and regional load balancing, Cloud Armor policies, Private Service Connect, VPC peering, and custom route designs.
  • Own the GCP network security posture in partnership with security teams, covering firewall strategies, segmentation, zero-trust patterns, DDoS protection, perimeter controls, and egress controls.
  • Serve as the L3 escalation point for complex production incidents; perform deep packet, routing, and performance analysis; and drive root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
  • Define standards, patterns, and best practices for GCP network designs, address planning, naming, tagging, and connectivity models.
  • Drive networking automation and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Deployment Manager, CI/CD for network changes, and policy-as-code.
  • Mentor L1/L2 engineers, review designs and changes, and provide training on GCP networking.
  • Work with architects and stakeholders to align network designs with business, security, and compliance requirements, including data residency and regulatory constraints.
  • Evaluate new GCP networking features and third-party solutions, build Proofs of Concept (PoCs), and create adoption roadmaps.
